Here’s what this app does
Mute monitors microphone and camera activity on a Mac and switches Do Not Disturb on during calls, then off when they finish. It works through system activity signals rather than a fixed list of conferencing apps, and lives in the menu bar.
Mute is free and open source under the MIT license. The developer states that it requires no account or subscription. It is available through the Mac App Store and the project’s GitHub releases.
The app needs system permissions to observe device activity, but the developer says it does not record or transmit audio or video. The current website also describes focus timers and keyboard shortcuts. macOS 14 or later is required.
